Svetlana arrived with her husband in Edmonton, the city they now call home, from Novosibirsk, Siberia just over 10 years ago.  They were invited by the Canadian Government to bring their skills, knowledge and expertise to Alberta.

Svetlana’s academic qualifications include a degree in municipal management and government service, PhD in philosophy and sociology, and an MA in leadership from the University of Guelph.

Svetlana has accomplished much during her time in Edmonton. Her achievements and recognitions include joint development of a program for the integration of educated immigrant women into Canadian society, this program is now used by other social service agencies in North America.

In 2010, Svetlana received a RISE AWARD recognizing her achievements in community outreach for improving the lives of newcomers through community leadership, education, arts and culture.

In 2015, Avenue Magazine named Svetlana as one of Edmonton's Top 40 Under 40 for her work "helping seniors of all nationalities and faiths live fuller and richer lives while also bridging the gap between generations".

Svetlana has been the Executive Director of the Jewish Senior Citizen’s Centre for more than 7 years where she works to promote the multicultural senior’s community and to build intergenerational connections.

Svetlana has volunteered with the City of Edmonton to improve the ways in which Edmontonians can make their opinions heard and become more engaged in the decision-making process. She is a motivational speaker and a mentor who believes in implementing the words of J. Q. Adams: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader” into actions.

Svetlana always maintained her enthusiasm, Vision and Values. She believes that each Voice must be heard.
